Special Education/IEP/504 Education

We provide training in various settings to educate families on state and federal laws, IEP and 504 processes and how to make sure your student is getting the best education possible.

Restorative Practices and Conflict Resolution

We work with families, students and the community to build strong connections, repair relationships when harm has occurred, focus on accountability, build empathy and strengthen understanding.

Records Review and Recommendations

We review all educational documents, (IEP’s, 504’s, behavioral records, assessments, grades, abilities) and make recommendations for moving forward. You will receive a report that makes difficult information easy to understand.

We support you through processes such as written requests for testing or meetings, interactions with your school district, strengthening the relationship between you and your school so everyone can work together as a team.

IEP’s and 504’s

We level the playing field by supporting you. We know the system and can attend meetings, problem solve, offer solutions, explain complicated policies and laws, and make recommendations to insure your child receives the services and support needed to be successful. No more going it alone - we will be there every step of the way. We make sure your voice is heard and you have full participation in the process.

Assessments and Tutoring

We offered research-based reading assessments administered by a credentialed reading specialist as well as tutoring/remediation for students reading below grade level.

We also offer remedial math tutoring as well as upper level math help (algebra to Calculus). Upper level tutoring is remote and times vary.

About CARES

Jennifer Dewey

CARES (Comprehensive Advocacy Resources and Educational Services) is truly a labor of love, built from nearly three decades of dedication to students and families.

For the past 29 years, I have served in many roles across education: classroom teacher, reading specialist, vice principal, and principal. I have worked in both traditional public schools and charter schools, always with the same mission—helping students succeed.

What sets CARES apart is the unique perspective I bring to advocacy. I understand the education system from the inside, and now, as a trained advocate through the National Special Education Advocacy Institute, I’m able to guide families using a different lens—one that focuses fully on the needs of the student.

With extensive experience in reading instruction and the Response to Intervention (RTI) model, I know what strategies and supports help students make real progress. I also know the realities of IEPs, 504 plans, and school meetings from both sides of the table. This dual perspective allows me to serve as a support and liaison between schools and families—helping build strong, collaborative relationships that prioritize the best possible education for every child.

At CARES, my mission is simple: to ensure that every student has the opportunity, support, and equity they need to thrive.
